It’s no secret that more and more developers are making, sometimes unconventional, decisions in order to collect money from players after the game itself has been released. Some create small spin-offs to the original, others get rich by selling soundtracks.
Recently, it has become popular to release additions to games, popularly called DLC (DownLoadable Content). Many people ask: “What’s wrong with that?”?». Indeed, many believe that the additional content released for the game is good. When a player sees that another set of a couple of missions and three guns is coming out for his favorite toy, he immediately runs to invest his money and download these same guns.
But is it really good?? This is a moot point. All DLC can be divided into 2 categories:
1. Necessary
2. Unnecessary
On the one hand, developers release large, interesting, important additions to the game. They are developed after the game is released and are really those “additional levels and guns” for which you don’t mind paying more money to the developer.
Here you can take a look a couple of examples:
1. Large, story-driven DLCs.
Let’s take the game Borderlands (the first part, not to be confused with the second, it is still unclear). In the Russian region of Steam it costs 349 rubles. It came out to her 4 DLC, each 200 rubles. Total, 350 rubles + 4*200=1150 rubles. What did we get for this?? And we got a very good game that attracts players for weeks of play, PLUS we get additional 15-20 hours of gameplay from DLC, and these DLCs, as everyone admits, are superb.
Or a game Deus Ex Human Revolution. 500 rubles on Steam for the game itself, plus 200 rubles for The Missing link add-on, which adds a significant piece of the plot to the main game and extends the enjoyment of the game by 5 hours.
Third game – Total War Shogun 2. 450 rubles + 200 for Rise of the Samurai + standalone addon Fall of the Samuria for 450. Again what do we get? 110 and another super game that is nice to spend more money on.
2. Bits. DLC that doesn’t represent anything, it’s unclear why they were released at all.
Unfortunately, the majority are like this. So we have come to the moment that made me decide to write this article.
Take the game Orcs must die 2. I really liked her. Indeed, a game for which you don’t mind paying 350 rubles. And more recently, the developers began to release DLC that did not carry any load to the game. Why are they doing this? Naturally for the sake of money. Let’s count again: We have a game for 350 rubles, plus (at the moment) two add-ons have been released, adding (in total) 6 new cards, 3 traps, 3 artifacts and one costume. And they charge 200 rubles for this. Let’s go back to borderlands, where for 200 rubles we got another five hours of campaign, new guns, locations, etc.d. And in the case of the orcs, for half (roughly rounded) the cost of the original game, they offer us a pathetic set of cards and a bunch of goodies.
Or, the most famous example, the hated Call of Duty. Take any part after the first Modern Warfare. With a not-so-small price tag of 900 rubles (400 rubles if taken on disk), we are offered a set of 4-5 cards for 250 rubles. Moreover, they rivet them in 4-6 pieces, until the release of the next part.
If sum up Under all the above:
Readers, please understand that I’m not whining that it’s expensive. No need to write: “no one is forcing you to buy”. I believe that the release of DLC of the second group is simply a degradation of the entire company. This is a slap in the face for the players. If they put price tags equal to half the game, then they should also provide content comparable to the original. And so, this is just milking, because there will always be fans, nerds, simply crazy ones, collectors who buy all this for the collection of their steam account, call them what you want, who will buy any piece of shit handed to them. And the developers use the money they receive to create another piece of shit.
Plus, a separate topic https://vertbetcasino.co.uk/bonus/ can be highlighted additions taken from the game in advance, to then sell them to maintain interest in the game. Such companies are simply, excuse the expression, crap. I will not name the ardent representatives of such a policy, so as not to incite holiwars.
It just hurts already. When I see a set on Steam asking me for 50 percent of the original for 3 guns, I don’t want to buy anything from these people at all. If they don’t treat us like people, why should I treat them the same??

Yes, others are still a long way from CDProject RED with their huge DLC/Patch for The Witcher, which they released absolutely free.
Because of these prices, it’s increasingly tempting to download pirated games with DLC
games with cartoons don’t count
I wish there was a New Year’s sale on Steam
If they decide to stay afloat by churning out pathetic guns and two quests for half the price of the game, it might be worth considering whether they need to stay afloat at all?
5–10 years ago, development budgets were, to put it mildly, smaller. Well, except for unique ones like Shenmue, which just didn’t pay off, lol. Well, plus you’re either not good with your memory, or you’re not good at it, because this abbreviation may not have existed, but attractions of unheard-of generosity “five new guns and three shitty cards” also happened, albeit in smaller volumes. The Battlefield series, for example, won’t let you lie. There was hackwork (which, however, no one forces you to buy, just like bad games), and cool additions. Just like now.
This is not to say that Call of Duty is a very hated game
many people liked it (especially pirates)
it’s just that the developers are turning a bun into a pump for pumping out moneythat is, you want to eat a bun… and you are already being sucked into this pipe
and CDProject RED and Valve really do make updates for free, but most importantly, they are QUALITY, and not trying to show off, saying we can release a bunch of updates completely free of charge, but they release ********

Hm. Now the desire to stay afloat is the degradation of the company? What a spit? What are you talking about? An FSB squad broke into your apartment and, pointing a gun at your little cat, is forcing you to buy that DLC with two weapons and one map? You really need those damn wings or uber skin? No? So don’t buy it. Or you just want to get angry at the “ruthless ransomware developers” who are ready to do anything for an extra penny? The simplest economic law says: “If there is demand, there will be supply,” so it’s not only about the developers, but also about “fans, nerds, just crazy people, collectors.”. Do you think that all developers need to do is release one decent game and they are provided with money for the rest of their lives?? Releasing DLC is a well-known way to earn a lot of money with a minimum of effort. “And if the developers use the money they receive to build another “shit”, then I will gladly buy that same “shit” if it’s like Orki Must Die2.
And I didn’t even read it… just the name alone already makes my throat itch… apparently because the furious bile is rising there.
But I think we should simply and calmly say: “If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.”.»
If you don’t need new cars, don’t buy them.
If you don’t need new fluff, don’t buy it.
If you don’t like the company, don’t buy its games.
If you don’t like paid “crumbs” – create at least one worthy one and you’ll want to sell it.
Tu-tu-tu… blah blah blah.
Here you are trying to snatch a high-quality 3D model for a project from a store, so they start to charge a price for it, but you understand that these models are almost useless.
It’s not the companies that got greedy, it’s the so-called “gamers” who have gone completely crazy and are starting to stick their unwashed little hands into things that aren’t theirs.
pfft… I won’t even argue with anyone.
Now it starts: “Here it is soon”.
This used to be, damn it, when companies weren’t dictated by a crowd of “stubs” what to do with their own brainchild.
Thank you.
The main argument in favor of such DLC: “If you don’t want it, don’t buy/play”. A t.To. many people want and buy, then the developers will continue to release similar “stubs”. That’s all.
With such a shameful third chapter as in the second “Witcher”, it was simply impossible not to smooth out the corners somehow. Well, the Enhanced Edition of the first part is, in fact, the form in which the game should initially hit the shelves. With all due respect to.
Plus, a separate topic can be highlighted with additions that were torn out of the game in advance in order to later sell them to maintain interest in the game. Such companies are simply, excuse the expression, crap. I will not name the ardent representatives of such a policy, so as not to incite holiwars.
Although I like their toys. Well, not all, of course, but in general, so to speak.
Actually, even then they were. Only they were called not the fashionable word DLC, but an unsightly add-on. And there were the same problems. Just look at Heroes Chronicles, which seems to be a separate game, but in reality it’s just a new company and it’s of lousy quality, but at full price. Or quite suitable additions for NWN.
The result is eight cards. A WHOLE EIGHT CARDS. This is the best buy since Google stock bought in 1998 Nah, Google stock bought in 1998 sucks in comparison. After all, these are not only eight cards, but also cards for DIFFERENT GAME MODES. This is so awesome that now I’ll take a kitchen cleaver and hack someone in the alley to earn money for something like this.
Apart from TF2 and DotA2 (which run on f2p rails), then after purchasing a Valve game you do not need to invest additional money into it
they offer us a set of 4-5 cards for 250 rubles. Moreover, they rivet them in 4-6 pieces, until the release of the next part.
If people play another 20+ hours on each map like this, why not?? Or the very presence of such a DLC is already preventing some people from sleeping peacefully at night?
And so, it’s just milking, because there will always be fans, nerds, Just insane, collectors who buy all this for the collection of their steam account, call them what you want, who will buy any shit, slipped to them.
Of course. They don’t know, stupid ones, that arrogant companies are only raking in money for their fun, but people like “YuriyStXb” see everything..
Oh yes, the author probably forgot that more than 10 more add-ons were released for Shogun 2, adding playable houses, troops and effects. But since I started praising, then completely, egezh?
If they decide to stay afloat by churning out pathetic guns and two quests for half the price of the game, it might be worth considering whether they need to stay afloat at all?
There are many companies that collect profits from DLC, which are then used for excellent projects. The same SR4 is riveted using previously released DLC for SR3. It feels like every bad DLC makes you sick. And anyway, why do you care about some stupid DLC that will be bought by two-and-a-half nerds from Holland??
