Isometric ARPG made in retro style. Early access.
The game is announced for platforms: Windows, Linux.
The beginning is intriguing. Our hero comes to his senses at the remains of a burning ship. No plot yet.
The gameplay is an isometric ARPG, aimed, oddly enough, at a one-time playthrough.
At the start, you are asked to choose a class (one of four) of the hero, which will determine the starting equipment and a special skill line.
Our main activity will be exploring locations to find treasures and kill monsters. Levels are linear, with small branches, monsters do not respawn. You can’t go back to grind – the only way is forward.
From time to time there are villages (of different configurations of houses) with unchanged significant NPCs: dealers in potions and other consumables, a tanner (sells and repairs leather armor), a blacksmith (repairs armor, weapons, can craft from our materials).
If you have an archer or a musketeer, use almost all your money to buy arrows or bullets for a musket. In the vastness of the game you can find an absolutely ridiculous number of them.
There are not many enemies in quantity, but they pose a real danger, a few missed hits and the end of the game. Some opponents occupy very inconvenient positions for defeating them (arrows on towers, for example), some spit huge fiery or poisonous clouds (dangerous). I play as an archer – melee enemies do not cause problems at all, unless in a team with ranged ones.
Types of opponents – thirty. As you overcome them, you can admire them on special cards.
There are very few types of weapons and armor. And their equipment is strange, each element of equipment and weapon has its own scheme. For example, we equip shields and helmets directly in the game window on the panels on the top right, clothes – in the stats window (even the icons are not visible there – what is worn), we do not equip weapons at all – they appear on the skill panel by themselves.
In my opinion, the equipment turned out to be chaotic and in general there was not enough of it.
For increasing the hero’s level, they https://nonukcasinosites.co.uk/review/allspins/ are awarded stat and skill points. Stats passively and evenly increase the corresponding parameters.
Skills are represented by passives.Stats and skills.
Stats and skills.
Stats and skills.
As you progress, you can sometimes find runes. If you collect them all, you will get nice passive bonuses.
The game features an original control system. We can use a certain weapon or item (there are no active skills as such), which are always tied to the right mouse button. In this case, with the left button, select any available option on the panel. Very unusual at first, but in fact it’s convenient.
The number of charges of a particular consumable, such as arrows, bombs or fireballs, is presented on the corresponding icons.
Movement set to WASD.
Let’s look at the pros and cons of the game and summarize.
+ Good music and sound.
+ Interesting control system.
+ Good system of stats and passive skills.
+ There are few enemies, but they are quite dangerous.
THINGS THAT CAN BE BOTH A PLUS AND A MINUS:
+- Retro graphics. As an oldfag, I liked it. But not modern, what can we say.
+- The game is designed to be played from start to finish. No grind. Personally, I would like some endless adventures in randomly generated dungeons and mountains of useful loot.
– There are no quests at all.
– No randomly generated dungeons or levels. All locations are linear and, what is important, quite empty.
– Few types of equipment, strange clumsy scheme for equipping armor and shields (weapons are installed on their own, convenient).
– There is no Russian localization of at least the text. The level of knowledge of English required to understand everything is very low.
CONCLUSIONS OBJECTIVE
Isometric ARPG with very simple content. The only thing that will hook you is the gameplay of battles and the exploration of the new world. I liked the original control system. Compared to the leaders of the genre, this is an empty shell of a Diabloid. And now it depends only on the developers what it will be in the end.
CONCLUSIONS ARE SUBJECTIVE
The game gives me mixed feelings. On the one hand, there is nothing to grind here, no quests, few types of equipment, linear levels. On the other hand, I look at the timer – I’ve already played for more than 9 hours. The project may arouse some interest, but not everyone.
PS: I probably didn’t cover all the aspects, I might have missed something. I will be glad to add/correct the review or answer questions along the way in the comments.
